Camper security Camper Stolen? This is what you must do immediately

Camper stolen? This is what you need to do immediately.

You walk to the spot where your camper was parked. And it isn't there. Your heart sinks. What should you do now? Every minute counts. The sooner you act, the greater the chance your camper will be found. Below are the steps you must take immediately – in the correct order.

camper security

Step 1: Call the Vehicle Crime Insurance Agency (VbV)

Call immediately: +31 (0)71 – 36 41 777. This number is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Do this first – even if you are not insured against theft. The VbV can immediately initiate actions to locate your camper.

Please keep at hand: registration certificate, make and type of camper and the last known location.

Step 2: Report it to the police

File a report with the police in the municipality where the theft took place. Are you abroad? Then file a report with the local police first and then handle the steps in the Netherlands.

The police need: registration certificate, make, type and color of the camper, the location of the theft, your personal details and identification.

Step 3: Call your insurance company

Report the theft to your insurer as soon as possible. Have your policy number ready. Most insurers have a 24-hour hotline for claims.

Step 4: Register in the Stolen Objects Register (SOR)

Register your stolen camper atdiefstalobjectenregister.nl . This increases the chance that a potential buyer or dealer will discover the theft and helps with the tracing.

Did you know this? Three-quarters of stolen caravans and campers are never returned to their owners. GPS tracker enormously increases the chance of recovery and gives you an immediate notification as soon as the camper moves.

Step 5: Check if there is camera footage

Ask nearby businesses, parking garages, or gas stations if there are any camera images of the time of the theft. Report this footage to the police as soon as possible.

How do you prevent this next time?

The best way to find your camper after theft – or not to lose it at all – is a GPS tracker. With a TrackJack CamperTracker:

  • Do you receive an immediate notification if the camper leaves your geofence?
  • Do you see where your camper is being driven?
  • Can you provide the police with exact location data?
