Will you pay road tax for an electric car in 2026?

Yes. Until 2024, fully electric cars (EVs) were completely exempt from road tax. From 1 Januari 2025 do you pay a reduced rate of 25% of the normal motor vehicle tax (MRB). Also read our page about Road tax in general.

  • Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) are subject to separate rules.
  • The discount will apply until at least the end of 2026.

How much will road tax cost for an electric car in 2026?

The amount of road tax depends on:
