Euro-Rijn Group is a multifaceted organization, primarily focused on logistics. From transport, storage and transshipment, logistics, salt delivery, to trade financing and real estate, you'll find them everywhere. One of the group's companies is EuroRijn XL Logistics, with offices in Breda, Moerdijk, and Roosendaal, offering a total of over 400.000 m² of space for its clients. Antoon Sebregts tells us all about it.

“The Netherlands is being boxed up,” begins Antoon. It is a nice metaphor for how the Netherlands is being deployed as a central hub for Europe. Containers largely arrive from Asia, are unloaded, stored, and as soon as the customer needs them, they are delivered anywhere in Europe. That can be by truck, inland waterway, or rail. And for EuroRijn XL Logistics, it is no different. They work for one of the largest supermarket chains in Europe and are a central point in the entire operation.

"E-fulfillment is a very important part of our business. We maintain inventory and ship orders placed in the webshop on behalf of our clients. And consumers are becoming increasingly impatient. Everyone wants their order delivered today," says the Supply Director. However, Antoon also sees a counter-trend. "Large online department stores and clothing retailers are now offering delivery within a few days as part of sustainability efforts, which is becoming an increasingly popular topic. It goes against the grain of the trend where you can have your groceries delivered to your home within 10 minutes."

 

Peak loads and seasonal rush hours

Because consumers place most orders on weekends, the e-fulfillment division of EuroRijn XL Logistics is always busiest at the beginning of the week. "On Mondays, our schedule is absolutely packed. All in all, this part of the company sends out around 300 to 350 trucks a week," Antoon continues. "And due to seasonal activity, the e-fulfillment department experiences peaks of 200 employees, compared to the usual 40-50."

A regular part of this busy schedule is the inspection of samples in the food industry. "It's important for our clients that food products are inspected again to guarantee the absence of, for example, salmonella and E. coli," Antoon shares.

A permanent team of seven drivers drives to the location where the containers are unloaded, and based on a LOT/batch code, the products are sampled and sent to external laboratories. This is to ensure impartiality and other aspects. Our end customer receives the results, and if approved, everything can then be shipped inland.

Accurate trip registration and sustainability

The drivers visiting the containers must be burdened as little as possible. That was the reason for getting started with comprehensive trip registration . All trips must be recorded quickly, efficiently, and in accordance with the requirements of the Tax and Customs Administration. The choice of a system with the RRS Quality Mark was therefore self-evident. Antoon is clear about the reason for choosing TrackJack: “The system works well, looks neat, and is no more expensive than necessary. Why would we pay tens of euros per month for something that can be done for much less?”
