Mobility is a hot topic in the Netherlands. Now that the various parties have shared their first election manifestos, it's interesting to take a look. Sustainable driving and driving more or less are hot topics. But how do the Dutch political parties view these hot topics? What are they striving for, and what exactly are they trying to combat?

PvdA and GroenLinks

The Labour Party (PvdA) and GreenLeft (GroenLinks) want to implement road pricing as soon as possible. They view motorists as polluters, and this will mean they'll pay more than they do now. They hope this will reduce driving and encourage other modes of transportation. Finally, they believe there's no longer a need for tax breaks on leased cars.

VVD

The VVD (People's Party for Freedom and Democracy) plans to invest in the current infrastructure in the Netherlands. This includes maintaining and constructing new roads, tracks, and tunnels. Furthermore, the VVD wants to continue what it has been working on for the past 13 years: making electric driving more attractive. They want to achieve this without disrupting the average motorist.

The VVD also supports lowering the excise duty on gasoline. If this becomes a reality, fuel prices will barely rise, if at all, from January 1st. They also want to increase the mileage allowance to encourage business mobility. Finally, the VVD wants more 30 km/h zones and speed cameras to prevent unsafe situations.

CDA

The CDA also supports the introduction of road pricing, but excluding rural areas. They believe this would be fairer for rural residents, as they have fewer alternatives than those in larger cities. By implementing road pricing, fewer people would be on the road, resulting in fewer traffic jams.

SP

The Socialist Party (SP) opposes road pricing. The SP stands for promoting electric driving. They want to make electric cars accessible to everyone. They want to encourage the transition from gasoline-powered cars to electric ones by offering subsidies and discounts on electric cars.
