The additional tax benefit for electric vehicles will increase in 2022 due to the lowering of the additional tax benefit cap to €35.000. Due to global supply problems, many cars will not be delivered until 2022. Drivers are suffering and will face a higher additional tax benefit than they initially opted for. VZR argues that this could be done differently.

While the Netherlands serves as Europe's example for promoting electric driving, the caretaker government erected a strange barrier on Budget Day. The phased increase in the taxable benefit for fully electric driving remains in place, but the taxable benefit cap is being lowered. From 2022, you will only receive a discount on your taxable benefit up to an amount of €35.000 instead of €40.000. These measures are at odds with the Climate Agreement and the current climate debate; after all, promoting electric driving makes a significant contribution to CO2 reduction.

Anyone ordering an electric car now can choose from a limited inventory or expect a delivery time of up to 18 months. In only a few cases will you actually be able to drive the car of your choice this year with the corresponding tax credit.

VZR advocates for the order date to apply to the tax addition reduction. After all, it is at *that* moment that you decide on the car with the tax addition applicable at *that* time . Then you know what you are entitled to as a driver.

Jan van Delft, chairman of VZR, explains: "160% more additional tax calculations are being performed on our website. Everyone wants to know where they stand, and that's not clear in the current situation. VZR therefore advocates making the order date the determining factor for the additional tax."
