Due to the coronavirus crisis, we all started working from home more in 2020. This had a significant impact on fueling habits at the pump.
In 2020, up to and including October, just over 10 billion liters of diesel, gasoline, and LPG were sold. That's over 1,4 billion liters less than in the first ten months of 2019.

Fewer cars on the road logically means lower fuel consumption. And now that we're only allowed to drive 100 kilometers per hour instead of 130 km/h, we're naturally driving much more efficiently. And that was clearly reflected in fuel consumption in our country.

BOVAG analyzed the figures

BOVAG delved into the CBS figures and saw a huge decrease in consumption compared to 2019.
We have put it in a simple table for you.

Note: Statistics Netherlands (CBS) only used the first ten months for these figures. Therefore, BOVAG was unable to include November and December.

July, September, and October were the best months for gas stations since the coronavirus emerged in our country. Normally, we would fill up around one billion liters of fuel per month, but since all the restrictions were implemented, that figure has only been reached three times. April was the worst month for gas stations. We filled up 'only' 818 million liters then, a significant decrease from the previous year: 1,2 billion liters.

BOVAG expects that we will have filled up a total of around 12 billion liters in 2020, the lowest level in thirty years.
