TrackJack has had the functionality in its trip logging system for years to compare the route driven with the fastest. But even the fastest route isn't always the most fuel-efficient. Google Maps will be filling that gap starting next year.

In light of rising gasoline prices and the shift toward more sustainable business and living, Google will offer not only the fastest route but also the most efficient route in its maps app. The app will then show the difference in arrival time and the difference in fuel consumption on that route. As a driver, you can then choose your preferred route. If you have an electric car with a certain range, or if you should have recharged, you might now choose the most sustainable route. Missing that job interview? Then the choice is also easy.

The update is available now in America and will come to Europe next year.
